The IITOS would like to create awareness for medical students by:

  • Raising the quality of Trauma and Orthopaedic care, including; effective, evidence-based initial management of common conditions by junior doctors
  • Increasing medical student interest in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery as a career choice, with the ultimate aim of increasing the orthopaedic workforce; and
  • Facilitating medical students interest in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery as a career by maximising their potential & development.

The National Orthopaedic Literary Awards was established by Professor John O’Byrne as a creative writing competition for Medical Students in Ireland.

The Student Guide to Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery gives an overview of what the specialty has to offer medical students during their training and, later, as a potential medical career.
